Our Story
St Albans is a hospitality brand dedicated to providing the highest quality experience, food, and service through a commitment to care and compassion for its guests. The Greek word ‘Filotimo’ underpins St Albans’ ethos: taking pride in what you do, while remaining humble. Since 2010, the brand has expanded to four venues, all located in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. The goal across all venues remains simple — great food, great service, great hospitality.
The Beginnings
St Albans was founded in 2010 by Simon Gloftis with the opening of his first venue, Hellenika, located in Nobby Beach. Inspired by his Greek and Polish heritage, Gloftis’ passion for food and hospitality began at a young age, with his first venture selling corn-on-the-cob at Rocklea Markets at just 16.
Theo Kampolis joined Hellenika in 2011 shortly after arriving in Australia from Greece and became a partner in 2017. With Kampolis’ focus on service and Gloftis’ focus on food, Hellenika quickly became a local institution and a destination in its own right.
Gloftis later opened The Fishhouse in Burleigh Heads and Nineteen at The Star Casino Broadbeach. In 2018, Hellenika’s sister venue was opened at The Calile Hotel on James Street, Brisbane. The venue received multiple awards, cementing its reputation and new home.
St Albans expanded further, opening SK Steak & Oyster in 2019, followed by Sushi Room in 2022, and later Sunshine in the same year. St Albans' venues are united by ‘Filotimo’, reflecting empathy, compassion, and the highest quality for their guests and team alike.
